"D. N. Yeary, Pilot Point, TX-Born in Lee County, VA.  Enlisted in the Confederate Army June 15, 1861, in Company B, Twenty-first Virginia Infantry, and after serving twelve months in the Infantry I joined the Sixty-fourth Virginia Cavalry, and was attached to a Kentucky Brigade, under Gen. Humphrey Marshall.  I served mostly along the borders of Virginia and Kentucky in order to prevent Gen. Garfield of the Federal Army from raiding these States.  We were camped at Abingdon, VA, and got orders to go to Kentucky and form a junction with Gen. Bragg at Perryville, KY.  We got between Lexington and Perryville and received orders to go to Hickman's Bridge and guard it from the enemy.  While there we captured 500 wagons loaded with all kinds of provisions.  After the battle of Perryville Bridge commenced to retreat back there to Bristol, Tenn., and guarded bridges and fords from Yankee depredations.  About the middle of September we were ordered to Cumberland Gap to hold and guard that place.  We were dismounted and put under command of Col. Frazier and I am sorry to say we were surrendered without a proper effort at resistance.  This was one of the saddest things of the war.  We could have held the Gap against almost amy kind of odds.  Our Captain jumped on Col. Frazier and would have given him a good thraashing but the Yankee officers pulled him off.  It was indeed a sad thing to see nearly 2,000 brave boys in gray down their arms without a fight and be marched off to prison.  I was sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., and kept there till the 17th of June, 1865." "During the early morning hours of July 5th John M. Andoe departed this life into his eternal home.  He was a patient suffer of tuberculosis for several years, the last seven months being confined to his bed.  He lived to the age of 68 years and 2 months.  He was born in Tennessee but when only a child his parents moved to Missouri where he continued to live until his death.  He was very ambitious and considered a good business man, especially so as a farmer and stockman.  He has two wives and six children who have proceeded him in death.  A wife, three daughters, Mrs. Lou Edwards, Mrs. Artha Blasingame of Baxter and Mrs. Gertie Wilson of Reeds Spring, three sons, Teddie, Johnnie and Dewey of Reeds Spring, survive him.  He enlisted for Christ when young and always donated liberally to his church.  During the last six years of his life he was an active member of the Missionary Baptist church at Key Stone near his home at Reeds Spring.  He realized a few months previous that his earthly life was limited and made his will and arranged his earthly affairs so he would have nothing to regret.  He said  "I'm satisfied to go now and I thank the Lord that he has let me live to see my children men and women."  He said to his wife and children, "Do not worry and grieve for me for I will soon be at peace and rest with pa and ma."  Although his death was expected it came very sudden to his family.  He called for his three sons and asked them to raise him up and while in his son Teddies arms, he passed away without a noticeable physical movement.  His wife and children and youngest sister, two nieces and two nephews were at his bedside, when the end came.  His remains were laid to rest in the McCollough cemetery, near his old home, on the White River.  Besides his wife and children, he leaves four sisters, three brothers and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure."

44. Elisha C. HENSON

1840-males: 2 under 5, 1 5-9, 1 20-29; females: 1 20-29
settled in Jenkins, MO area, Barry co.
patented 40 acres in Barry co, MO 1 June 1859
from Henson family tree on ancestry.com:

Elisha Henson and family are first found in the 1840 census reading in Taney Co., Missouri. They are in the part which was established in 1851 as Stone County, Missouri. They are living adjacent to his parents, brothers and sisters, and possibly her brother, James LaForce and family. They are no doubt living up and down Flat Creek where they settled about 1835.

From Our Hensons, p. 54-55: Elisha and Anna LaForce Henson came to Taney County, Missouri about 1835, probably at the same time as his father and other members of the Henson family. Elisha and family may have moved to Barry County, Missouri soon after 1850, or it could have been that a new land survey was taken and some of the family found their homes in Barry County after the establishment of Stone County from the western part of Taney County, Missouri, in 1851. Elisha's oldest son was married in Taney County, Missouri in 1854 - This was Thomas William Henson and Sarah Jane King.

There are no Henson marriages recorded in Barry County, Missouri before 1854. It is quite likely that some of the older children were married in Taney Co., Mo.  The early records of Taney County were destroyed by fire. An Elisha Henson was performing marriages in Barry County, Missouri, and signed as being a minister of the Gospel. The present generation can not recall hearing that Elisha was a minister.

All the older Hensons except Thomas Henson, Jr. are found living in Flat Creek Township in 1840. James LaForce is found in Flat Creek Township. He may have been the brother of Anna LaForce Henson. Elisha Henson and family were living in the Jenkins area of Barry County, Missouri in 1850.

Elisha Henson had a stone at his grave which could not be repaired. The Henson
family members donated funds at the Annual Henson Reunion for a new stone for both Elisha and Anna LaForce Henson. This stone was set at their grave in May 1971. On the old stone the following inscription was found:
"His Toils are O'er, His Work is done
And He is Fully Blest
He Won the Fight, the Victory
And entered into Rest."
